kubernetes metrics

Kubernetes generates quite a bit of metrics, but do you actually make use of them? Do you know what that boilerplate you copy into every prometheus scrape config actually gathers?

kubectl proxy is a great way to get local access to the api server, also handles auth for you.

You may see references to metrics-server. This "just" scrapes kubelet for the same info and exposes it to the api server for use with autoscalers.

Since it doesn't actually produce data, it doesn't make sense to scrape it.
